Chinese 18th century Famille Rose Plate made during the reign of the Emperor Yongzheng for export to Europe showing a scene from Chinese life. Made at the kilns at Jingdezhen with excellent work with decorating with the overglaze enamels

The centre shows a lady watching over three young boys while they worked at their school work. The scene shows various items associated with the scholar including jardineres with peacock feathers and peonies

The sides painted in turquoise enamel with a geometric design. The cavetto painted with overglaze pink enamel with a cell border and cartouches of pommegranites bursting with seeds, peaches and peonies. These are for the wish for large famalies of sons and with long life. There are small cartouches of coiled gui dragons in gilt between them.

The plate is enhanced in gilt
