Chinese Blue and White 18th Century plate from The Nanking Cargo which sank in 1752 while aboard the vessel known as the Geldermelsen bound for Amsterdam as part of the Dutch East India's Fleet
The cargo was eventually salvaged by Captain Michael Hatcher and sold through Christies Amsterdam in April / May 1986
This plate shows the Pattern that was called the Peony and Pomegranate pattern and was part of Lot 3642 in the Christies sale
Christies described the pattern ' painted with a peony below a flowering pomegranate within a band of trellis-pattern divided by four floral panels at the well below three widely spreading peony sprays at the border c1750'.
The plates were made during the reign of the Emperor Qianlong at the kilns at Jingdezhen.
