Chinese Blue and white Qianlong soft paste porcelain ovoid vase. Excellent colour and painting to show a deer with the Lingzhi fungus of immortality in its mouth under the writhing pine tree. The mushroom is the ruyi headed fungus. The deer is supposed to be the only animal that can find the magic mushroom.

The pine tree also is associated with longevity and when the deer is painted under the tree the metaphor for longevity or immortality is doubly enforced.

the vase is a typical mid Qianlong shape with excellent colour and painting.

The soft paste porcelain body was achieved by firing at a lower temperature causing the glaze to become lightly crackled and the body to be lighter in weight than high fired porcelain.
