18th century famille rose pair of Trencher salts for the Middle Eastern /European market. The shape is very European and the painting with the use of heavy enamelling over the glaze to show scattered flower heads with a stylized pattern to the well of each salt is more associated wit the Middle East.
the design is enhanced with gilt which was applied in the far east as it is a soft gilding which is a little rubbed in parts.
A most unusual pattern
