Chinese silk sleeve band embroidered around 1870 on blue Satanized silk.
The embroidery is intricately made using gilt tread to form leaf shaped cartouches to the central section and a cell border again with leaf shaped panels.
The cartouches show figures in a garden setting or trees and aquatic scenes.
The skill needed to produce such work was high and the sleeve band is in excellent condition
it is all framed and conserved and from a private collection
Later sleeve bands were produced in a more ‘ in a more sampler ‘ type way in as much as they were made to help improve embroidery techniques, but this a sleeve band that had been used
