 Until 939 Annam had been part of the Chinese Empire but had then become Independat.  It was the expansion of the Chinese Empire under the ming emperor Yongle it was brought back into the Chinese Empire in 1407. Annam means pacified south. but is was given a form of independence in 1428.
\r\nThe Annam capital was Hanhoi and it was here that the majority of the kilns were based.  With the marine and land archaeology it is now becoming easier to date the wares of Annam
