Ming Polychrome wucai Swatow lidded box

SOLD

Reference

Framed Height
4 cm (1 1/2")
Chinese Ming dynasty wucai compressed form lidded box made at the kilns known as Swatow as this is the area the illicit export came from.

Lidded boxes are not common in the wucai palette from Swatow. This is painted in the typical design of the Swatow pieces and the colours are very good..

Painted to the top with a stylized flower head and the sides with scrolling foliage.

Both the shape and the pattern in blue and white is a fairly common one in China and Annamese pieces but in the polychrome palette it is far more unusual.

A very good example of type
