Early Ming Blue and white plate made towards the end of Hongzhi (1488 - 1505) or early Zhengde (1506 -1521).

Excellent painting to show a pair of fish swimming around aquatic plants including duck weed and lotus.

The plants are associated with good health and a pair of fish represent a wish for abundance and wealth.

The sides to the top and the under sides are painted loosely with scrolling lotus beneath a band of intense decoration.

Although often referred to as provincial ware they were produced at the kilns at Jingdezhen and research has shown they were better than the term would imply
