Ming porcelain plate made during the Emperor Wanlis reign. Painted to the centre with the Long Tailed bird which represents the phoenix. The bird is in a naturalistic setting with insects and flowers in side a narrow wave style band. The edge is painted with auspicious items and the underside is painted with flower sprays and flower heads.

The plate is Swatow style probably from the area referred to a s Swatow and there is kiln grit adhering to the foot rim.

The phoenix when in flight is an emblem for the Empress but when painted as the Long Tailed bird it is associated with abundance and longevity.
