Wanli - Ming - blue and white jars made as a pair and painted in underglaze blue to show a naturalistic style scene of birds, peonies, pine on a river bank. Overall an aquatic scene.

The jars appear to be rounded but the middle section is actually hexagonal with gently faceted sides, while the neck and the base are rounded. Excellent potting.

It is a good pair with good decoration for this type.

The glaze was quite bubbly when applied and on both there is a very small area where the bubbles have burst during firing. The one has a small firing flaw to the neck.
