15th Century Ming - Hongzhi Period - deep blue and white saucer dish, with excellent potting and painting. The decoration to the centre shows a standing peacock with rockwork beneath a tree peony with leafy branches. The cavetto painted with large lotus flowers and scrolling foliage which is repeated to the underside of the cavetto
Peacocks were much prized in China having been introduced into in China from the South.
