Ming / Annamese Chinese blue and white brush washer with under glaze blue decoration in the shape of stylized lilly petals. c1485.
During this period the Kingdom of Vietnam was part of the Ming Empire. The cargo was being transported around Hoi An and was wrecked. It was subsequently salvaged by Oxford University Archaeology Department and sold through Butterfields Auction in California in the year 2000. The provenance for which is attached to the base.
The compressed form brushwasher is in excellent condition and a charming piece.
