Annamese blue and white compressed form porcelain lidded box. Painted to the top with a stylized lotus flower with inside a stylized flower pattern.
Annamese refers to the northern area of modern day Vietnam which during the tang dynasty had been part of the Tang Empire. It came back into the Chinese Empire during the Ming dynasty but only for around twenty years.
This pretty box is typical of the ceramic production of the 16th century and mirrors much of the work of the Jingdezhen kilns in China
Some Annamese was exported to China
