Chinese Imari small Sparrow beak jug c1720 made at the end of the reign of the Emperor Kangxi or early part of the reign of the Emperor Yongzheng for Export to Europe.
Made to imitate the palette of the Japanese ceramics being exported to Europe out of the Japanese port of Imari
This jug was made at Jingdezhen and excellently decorated with bright colours and an unusual subject matter. The painting shows a Hare lying down beneath peonies next to rock work
Around the base a scrolling flowers in ribbon style border.
