Chinese early 18th century rare pair of Doucai Bowls made during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi at the kilns at Jingdezhen.
painted to the outside with swimming golden carp - gold fish - I a pool with lotus and lilies. They are painted in a vertically striped water representing ripples. The inside has plain sides and to the base the pattern is repeated with a single fish in the water with lotus and lilies.
the base has a double circle around an apocryphal earlier Ming mark for the Emperor Xuande. The mark is to honour not to deceive
The pattern with gold fish and lotus represents a wish for gold in abundance with wishes for gold and jade in particular.
