Chinese early 18th century miniature Imari shaped vase made during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi.

This vase is very well painted in the Imari palette with orange, blue and enhanced with gilt to show flowers and foliage. to the neck is a typical Kangxi hatched border.

Miniature or toy vases were difficult to make and often it was only the best potters and painters that made these. It was important for them to be high quality as they were brought in by the sea captains or merchants as the samples. They were shown as almost like the tradesmans samples who was able to show them and then take orders on what colour size and shape was wanted by the owners of the large houses. When they were certain they had their orders for the next shipment they were the sold or given away as dolls house pieces.
