Chinese famille verte early 18th century pounce pot or sander. These were made for the western market and were used to shake sand or other such absorbent material on to writing to dry the ink.

excellent painting to show butterflies around the holes on the top and to the main body on the sides there are four flower heads to represent four of the noble flowers peony, lotus, chrysanthemum and hibiscus. The top of the foot rim and the underside of the top is painted with trailing flowers and foliage.

The shape is known as a trencher sander due to the dish like top and was based on the trencher salt shape and the more common shape used in Dutch Delft.

Very good painting with good bright colours a rare item.
