Chinese 18th century made in the Kangxi period c1700 with excellent painting with bright enamels. This type is known as a pie crust plate due to the crimping style of the rim. The enamelsare have an excellent depth to them giving a supurb colour. The painting to the center is painted with two swallows in flight with one carrying a branch of plum blossom.

The swallow represents the spring and symbolises success in the future, happiness and energy. The energy of the swallow comes from its carrying of mud to build its nests.

The plum blossom is one of the three friends of winter, the willow tree taht fringes the scene represents the spring. As the swallows are flying below the willow and with the sprig of plum blossom the plate symbolizes hope and the coming of the spring.

The willow is also thought to repel evil and keep out all ill will.

The border is also painted with excellent insects and butterflies which represent joy and the cicdas for longevity.
