Kangxi Famille Verte porcelain plate. Early 18th century Chinese plate with excellent over glaze enamels of Mandarin ducks in a lotus pond to the centre and to the sides cartouches of crustaceans and lotus flowers and to the cavetto excellent paintings of lotus flowers and ducks, ducks even eating fish!

in Chinese folk lore pairs of Mandarin ducks represent trust and affection along with marital bliss. when the ducks are shown in a lotus pond it is also for purity (that is from the lotus) and faithfulness.

In the cartouches the ducks are shown with reeds and this is for being top of the class in the court exams.

Excellent example of type.
