Kangxi blue and white porcelain small Plate
Reference
5671
Diameter
16 cm (6 1/4")
Chinese early 18th century blue and white porcelain dragon plate made during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi.
Excellent painting to the centre to show a writhing dragon trying to reach the flaming pearl surrounded by lightning bolts.
the sides painted with flower heads in a stylized wave border
The back is lavishly painted with flowers under the rim and to the base inside a double circle is a six character Cheng Huas mark. Cheng Hua was an earlier Ming Emperor who was much revered and the mark on this plate is to honour not to deceive as it is an apocryphal mark
The plate is quite flat so was probably the plate below a small sauce tureen or possibly a childs plate it was made for the Western market
