Kangxi - Chinese early 18th century - blue and white porcelain Pounce pots, sometimes known as sanders. They were used to shake sand over finished writing in Europe, hence the name sanders.

The pair are painted around the sides with emblems of the scholar and around the underside of rim flower heads and around the base scrolling flowers.

These were made in pairs but so often one has been lost or broken.

The top is pierced with holes were the sand was put in and also shaken out from. Elegant pair
