Chinese early 18th century blue and white plate made during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi for export to Europe. Made at the kilns at Jingdezhen c1710
Painted to the centre with two Ladies on a terrace with prunus flowering tree within a double circle. The pattern may be a simplified picture relating the Poem the Romance of the Western Chamber.
The cavetto is painted with a geometric design with shaped cartouches of flower sprays
the reverse is painted to the base with a six character apocryphal Cheng Hua mark. this is not put to deceive but to honour.
