Chinese - c1700 Early 18th Century blue and white bowl known as a klapmutsen bowl due to its everted rim. Made during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi for export to Europe but with Chinese taste decoration. Six character Cheng hua mark to the base as an apocryphal mark to honour.

Excellent colour and decoration of two calligraphic panels and two figural narrative ones. One panel shows the Scholar and attendant approaching a home of a student and the second panel showing the scholar teaching his pupil being waited on by his attendant. The calligraphy relates to the story of the panels.

The centre of the bowl is painted with two jumping boys.

Made at the kilns at jingdezhen. Wonderful quality of potting, painting and subject matter.
