kangxi Blue and White Dragon Plate
Reference
5837
Diameter
16 cm (6 1/4")
Chinese early 18th century blue and white plate made during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi at the kilns at Jingdezhen. Excellent colour and painting.
The painting to the font shows a writhing four toed dragon with the flaming pearl, the source of all wisdom, amongst lightning bolts and clouds all inside a double circle.
The rim or cavetto is painted with a turbulent foaming sea with flower heads and demi heads.
The underside is painted with Buddhist emblems underneath the rim and to the base a double circle around a six character apocryphal Xuande mark. A mark to honour not to deceive. This is a less common mark to the base.
Excellent small plate made for export to Europe
