Chinese 18th century blue and white porcelain bottle vase made during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi for export to Europe. Excellent colour and potting. Potted to produce a compressed form bottle vase and painted to the body with a strong blue with lotus flowers and foliage.

To the neck and the base of the neck are well painted bands of lappets or stiff leaves.

The lotus flower is used quite a lot in Chinese art and was introduced when Buddhism became one of the religions of China. it is the flower of Summer and more importantly it is the flower of the Confucian Gentleman. the flower also symbolises purity and peace.

A very elegant bottle vase
