Japanese 19th century kiseru made of silver with embellishments towards the top and pipe end small brass lip to the mouth end

Kiseru were used to smoke a very fine tobacco resembling the fineness of hair.



The lower parts of society were banned from carrying weapons so their Kiseru allowed them to show off their wealth and status by displaying them either while smoking or dangling from their clothes. Some kiseru were used in China as travelling opium pipes



An unusual long pipe but a very good example
