Chinese 17th century Kraak deep Charger from the Hatcher Cargo.

Painted to the centre with a bird perched on rockwork with insects flying around. Painted with peonies and encircled by a shaped border filled with various designs.

The sides are painted with panels of peaches and flowers separated by narrow panels.

The hatcher cargo is so called as it was salvaged by Michael Hatcher having originally sunk c1642. It had been a vessel called the Witte Leeuw and was carrying porcelain for the Dutch East India Company that had been made at Jingdezhen.

the salvaged cargo was sold through Christies Amsterdam June 1984
