27 cm (10 3/4")
Chinese large blue and white Transitional jar made during the reign of the Emperor Shunzhi in the mid 17th century. Painted to show a Kylin with lightning bolts, plantains (Banana Tree) and a puppy Kylin to the reverse. The back ground shows a fence and distant mountains.
The larger the vase or jar the harder they were to pot well. This is potted very well and would appear to be perfectly formed.
The colour is typical of the period and the free flowing painting shows great movement and character of the mythical beasts.
The wooden lid is pierced and dates from the 19th century
