Chinese 18th century blue and white porcelain pickle dish made during the reign of the Emperor Qianlong for export to Europe. The painting and design show grapes on a vine with tree shrews - as the Chinese call them - or squirrels. the underside is moulded as a vine leaf. The shape and painting is based on that of an early English porcelain one possibly produced by Vauxhall.

Chinese soft porcelain was not a differently constructed porcelain to the normal hard paste porcelain but was fired at a lower temperature in the kilns. It is also a very light body.
