Chinese Mandarin Rank Badge or Mandarin Square, for a child. This would have been from the front of a daughters robe made in two halves so that it went either side of the opening on the robe.

The badge is of a silver pheasant which is appliqued on to the background and is for the fifth rank.

the practice of putting the roundel of the badge inside a square developed in the Qing Dynasty for the womans badge and having the bird facing to the left.

A childs badge is smaller in size but that can vary but the bird that was used is usually a full sized bird from an adult badge.

This is an unusual badge as it is all in metallic thread and is of a high standard.
