Chinese 18th / 19th century stool made from Hongmu wood. excellent colour and patina
The table is made with the typical floating panel to the top to allow for expansion in hot and humid conditions of the summer months and shrinkage with colder temperatures. the joints are well constructed and typically hidden.
the legs are carved to the feet to represent pony hooves. and a yoke shaped stretcher holds them rigid. The shaped frieze below the top makes an elegant finish.
it is difficult to date precisely as the shape and size that was used from the Ming dynasty into the Qing. The wear and colour would suggest 18th or early 19th century.
It is an excellent shape and size as a stool or side coffee table or occasional table. I have found it invaluable!
