Chinese Transitional - late Ming - blue and white dragon bowl made at the kilns at Jingdezhen c1640. Excellent potting and painting with a slightly everted rim.

The painting to the outside shows a pair of dragons chasing the flaming pearl, the font of all knowledge. Both Dragons are chasing in the same direction with bolt of fire and lightning.

The Dragon is synonymous with China folk lore and the Emperor but is also one of the signs of the Zodiac and was seen as the ruler of the earth and the heavens.

Although this is a very well painted bowl wit two excellent Dragons they are not Imperial five clawed dragons. it is very much an export bowl

The base of the inside is painted with a flaming pearl and to the underside inside the footrim there is a chop mark. This is the mark for the potter or painter.
