Chinese 18th century porcelain blue and white pair of lidded jars painted with a cracked ice ground with flower sprays and buds of Prunus (plum blossom). the top of the shoulder around the base of the neck is a hatched pattern which is typical of the period.

Although prunus is a very auspicious flower in Chinese folklore these jars are very much part of the Export trade to Europe.

The purpose of the jars was decorative and although often referred to as Ginger jars this was a misleading term as they were ornamental and used to show status and to add to the decoration of a room

Both jars have their original lids
