Kangxi Blue and white porcelain bowl with canted corners and flat side - square bowl. The canted panels across the corners have a hatched decoration while each of the sides is painted with a lady in a garden with a tree. Each scene is different as the tree changes, each tree is associated with a differnt season, including a pine tree on one side and the banana tree or plantain.

The inside is painted with 3 jumping boys, and the underside is painted with a double circle and around a a six character Cheng Hua mark.

Square bowls are very difficult to produce and and always have excellent decoration and colour for this reason. There main market in the eearly 18th century was more of the Dutch market than Britain. The production of these bowls died out with the end of the Kangxi reign
