Chinese porcelain charger from late Kangxi early Yongzheng period. Excellent painting to show Bamboo, Chrysanthemum and Prunus to the centre. The edge has a brown rim which has no visible chips or nibbles

Bamboo and prunus together represent husband and wife and marital bliss. Bamboo is also associated with humility and righteousness being used by all making no distinction between classes.

Chargers were imported into the west to be used as decorative items as they would lighten a dark corner or wall and were considerably cheaper than an oil painting but also showed status.
