As a graduate from Oxford University, my visits to the Ashmolean Museum and hours spent at Christie’s and Sotheby’s gave me an early insight into what was to be my business; the sale of Oriental Ceramics and Textiles. Most of my sales are on line and at the High Class Antique Fairs that I stand at, but I also assist collectors in acquiring pieces for their collections.
Chinese antiques have been a part of my life since my childhood, growing up in a house full of various Chinese pieces from across all ages and then going on to Oxford where I could wander around the Ashmolean Museum. All of this made me realise how beautiful and fun Chinese ceramics and Textiles are.
Following on from University, teaching and starting a family I decided to follow my interest in Chinese Ceramics and Textiles. At University I was told an expert was someone who knows more and more about less and less and a generalist was someone who knows less and less about more and more, this was then qualified by ‘one is the harder option you can work that out’. I chose the former and that certainly is the harder option but the most rewarding as I can specialise in the areas that really appeal to me.
